Saving energy is saving money

The average energy consumption of a family per year is about 1250 euro. It is relatively easy to cut the energy consumption in half, and thus also the expenses.

By looking at our energy consumption in a rational way, we can save a lot of money by taking energy-friendly measures or by investing in our homes.

Thousands of families in countries like the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden have noticed that these savings are not utopia. Many of these families have found that rational energy consumption consists of very simple things.

There are three principles in place in the holy trinity of energy:
- Save as much as you can
- Try if possible to apply sustainable energy sources
- Be as efficient as you can

Research shows that half of the operating costs go to heating the house. That is why most savings can be achieved here. An open door or window is the biggest cold bridge that make the money literally fly out. So make sure that windows and doors are not open unnecessarily.

Blowholes will also cause a lot of loss of warmth in the house. Make sure they are all closed.

The additional insulation of the house is third issue to get the energy consumption down. In Belgium the K value system has been created to indicate how well a house is insulated. This is how the K55-standard became operative. The current techniques make it possible to achieve a K30-standard, however a lot of homes in Belgium do not even achieve a K75 standard. The higher the K standard, the higher the energy consumption. And as long we have to pay for all this energy consumption, the more expensive it is.

Energy consumption can go down drastically, without too much trouble. And those who can get their energy consumption down, will have more money left for other things. Of course a low energy consumption is also good for the environment!
